NURS 408 Conceptual Bases of Nursing; NURS 461 Engaging in Leadership & Health Policy; NURS 463 Synthesis of Professional Nursing.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I have always been involved with mentoring new nurses in the clinical setting. When the director of the University of New Mexico-Gallup nursing program approached me with the offer of a teaching position, it seemed like a natural progression. There is a great need for skilled, caring nursing professionals and I knew I could positively impact filling that need.

  • What advice would you give to nurses considering the online RN to BSN track?

Make time in your life for school before you start. Once you have blocks of time set aside, treat it like a work schedule. It is not optional. Get started, work at it every day, and before you realize, you will be done.

  • Why are you interested in nursing? What drew you to this field?

Nursing is such a wonderful mix of social interaction and science. This combination, with opportunities to truly help people, was what drew me.

  • Tell us something your students may not know about you:

I love spending time outdoors with my family: gardening, swimming, hiking, and boating. I am also a musician, and began playing the piano at age five. I include music in everything I do in one way or another.
