"I achieved my BSN and never looked back until I achieved my terminal degree of a DNP. I am so proud to say that I am a Nursing Professor and am making a big difference in many of our graduates to continue on in their education, too."
Which classes do you teach online?
Conceptual Bases of Nursing
Why did you start teaching?
I started teaching in nursing as I was not happy with nurses not caring for their patients. I felt more nurses were doing tasks, rather than critical thinking. I wanted to make that change so nurses can still provide the care that is needed in caring for patients and not just tasks only.
What advice would you give to nurses considering the online RN to BSN track?
The beauty of getting an RN to BSN all online is that you can do this at your pace. A BSN is so important in nursing and by having the flexibility of taking classes that fit your schedule, there seems to be no reason why you would not complete this track.
Why are you interested in nursing? What drew you to this field?
I have always wanted to be a nurse but never had the grades, so I never thought I could be a nurse. Once I started applying myself, I realized that I might be able to achieve my dream. I went back to school after I married my first husband. I achieved my dream of graduating with an associate's degree in nursing a week before my husband died. I was bullied while working the floor as my charge nurse thought because I had an ADN that I am a task nurse and gave me many patient assignments that were unsafe. I wanted to change this thought in the nursing world and continued on getting my degree. I achieved my BSN and never looked back until I achieved my terminal degree of a DNP. I am so proud to say that I am a Nursing Professor and am making a big difference in many of our graduates to continue on in their education, too.
